About Kathy T

Yoinks. I hate writing about myself, but here goes. My husband and I have two daughters, two dogs, and two cats.  His mother also lives here with us.  We :::proudly:::: call La(space)Vergne home after moving here from Lexington, Kentucky in June of 2003.  Right after the move, I studied and tested for my real estate license and am now a full-time Realtor.  With real estate, I’ve been put into the position where I can give back to the community. I feel this is urgently important since what goes around comes around, karma, and all that. A portion of every closing goes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, United Way, and an independent philanthropic fund that’s raised tens of thousands of dollars for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, scholarships, and more.  I served as PTO president of Roy Waldron Elementary School a couple of years ago (2004), volunteer with Christmas for the Children, Up with People, and am a Girl Scout leader.

When I graduated from Murray State University with B.S. in Journalism & Radio/TV, I could never have predicted the whole wide world being available within a couple of keystrokes. Okay, I’m kind of sick talking about myself and my head is so swollen that I can’t hold it up. You can go read more in this article published by the Rutherford Reader (see page 6).

  1. Hi Kathy T,

I noticed that you said you did volunteer work. I was wondering if you could tell me about any volunteer opportunities in Lavergne?

  2. Hi Kathy..I will be relocating to LaVergne in July 2007 and am looking forward to it. I have been reading your blog for a few months to get a feel of the “normal, hard working, just plain good families.” I’ve been in Las Vegas for the past 3 years and there is absolutely no sense of community here. My question is, in addition to my full-time job, I have an art business I have been doing for 16 years. My website is http://www.doodlebuddies.com. I was wondering if you could guide me to art festivals or craft shows in the area.
Thanks so much in advance, I appreciate your time!!!

  3. Hi Dana & Robin… sorry it took me so long to reply to your questions, but I didn’t realize they were here as the notification email went to Ivy (as the creator of the post) and she thought I was already getting it. Miscommunication drama! But to your questions:

Dana, my guess is that the LaVergne Seniors can always use volunteers. There is a very fine senior center located on Stones River Road. You can contact the senior center at 793-3048 for more information. In addition, I’d bet the city library could always use help - they can be reached at 793-4337. Occasionally, the city posts about cleanup days, etc. on their website (look at sidebar on right for link). If you check in with those fairly regularly, you’ll see other opportunities. We don’t publish everything the city sends us as we are not a newspaper and have “real” jobs, so the city site is your best link to stay on top of that.

And to Robin, craft fairs. I know there is a really good one in Lascassas every year. My daughter’s girl scout troop once sold dry cookie mixes there (you know, those cool jar mixes) to raise money for a trip to Washington, DC. In LaVergne itself, Oldtimers’ Day offers craft booths for a fairly moderate price. I think the big craft fair times are at Christmas and possibly in the spring around the area, but as I am not as talented in that area, I don’t have an extensive list. And if you’re moving to the area and need real estate assistance (my area of expertise!), email me at ktyson(at)realtracs(dot)com and I’ll send you my phone!

    Hope this helps!

  6. Kathy - I’m hoping you can help me out. On the City of LaVergne website for Old Timer’s Day this year they have:

“Parking for festival attendees is located at parking lots throughout town.”

Last year they had that parking was at “various locations around town”. Where, oh where, are these “parking lots/locations” at??? I’m sure that LaVergne natives know them like the backs of their hands but how about throwing us newcomers a bone???

Inquiring minds want to know - Jimmer

  7. Good question Jimmer! You might want to cxheck with Angie MAyes: amayes@lavergne.org. She heads up the OTD planning

    Thanks,

  13. Hi Kathy,

I noticed your latest blog entry containing a large amount of detailed housing data and was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing with me what benefits you’ve gained from taking the time to do that analysis. I’m a Realtor in the metro Atlanta area that used to specialize in the foreclosure market and I know how much effort it can take to get those kinds of drill down results. I’ve literally just started up a blog of my own and thought your blog one of the most noteworthy so far. Not that I’m an expert- lol!

    Thanks in advance.

  15. I didnt see a “contact” link on the site, so I thought I’d try this instead. I am having an open house this weekend in hopes of selling our home. Is there a way I could get that listed here? I’d truly be appreciative.

  16. Hi,

I live less than a mile north of La Vergne in the Park Place Subdivision located just off Murfreesboro Rd. I enjoy reading your blog to find out about new stores and restaurants coming to the area.

I just received the Lost Dog Alert below from Dog Detective about a dog missing in La Vergne, and it dawned on me that a link to the lost section of Dog Detective would be a great addition to your blog. Just a thought. Here’s the
alert about Huckleberry in case you want to post it. The link to Dog Detective appears below the alert.

  17. Thought I would start here first. I found a Male Chocolate Labrador recently in my neighborhood off of Jefferson Pike and Old Nashville Highway. He is in good condition with a blue collar - he is very friendly - I am sure someone is missing him by now. He has been sleeping on my front porch and in the garage as it’s been raining. Please contact me - would love to see him back with his rightful owner. 615-686-4792

  19. Kathy and all readers,

I am looking for retirement communities in the Nashville/Rutherford County area for my parents. My mother still works and my father is disabled. He is 60 and she is in her late 50s. I found the elderly apartments in Smyrna but they are full and I haven’t found anything else. Do you know of any apartments or duplexes that rent exclusively to seniors? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
