Little Updates

The library’s summer reading program is beginning later this week. Be sure to go by and sign your children up! Also, tomorrow (Wednesday, May 31st) is report card day at our local schools. It’s also officially the last day of school. If you go to Waldron, make sure you pick up a newsletter from your child’s teacher while you’re there. Some teachers are notorious for never handing them out.

Did everyone survive the storm on Sunday? Here’s a picture I took while we were trying to leave town – that nickel sized hail was pretty nasty stuff.

Also, I listed the house I talked about a month or so ago. Here’s a picture of the pool. If you know ANYONE interested in owning 1.4 acres in the Morningside subdivision, 3 beds, 3 baths, 3-car garage, gazebo, pool, hottub, 2-stall horse barn, goldfish pond, balconies on the front and back, sunroom, formal dining, etc. contact me! It’s $235,000. Very reasonable when you consider that people buy those houses in Lake Forest for $200,000+ with no land or pool or anything. Plus you’d have GREAT neighbors as I live just down the street from it. :-)

Gateway coming to LaVergne

I saw on another blog that Gateway Computers is coming to LaVergne, bringing 300 more jobs. Here’s the link… Gateway is Coming. I’ll see if I can find more info.

Bloggers Meeting Saturday

On Saturday, bloggers from the middle Tennessee are holding the monthly meeting at Espresso Joe’s in Smyrna at 2:00 p.m. It will be podcast, as well. I was shocked how short the meetings are! You just show up, get some delish coffee, and say hello to the other bloggers present. Then Michelle of This is Smyrna begins the meeting and a mic goes around the table for you to talk about whatever you want to say (e.g., where to find a good bra, real estate, etc.). The meetings seem to be very short and it’s very nice to put faces with names/blogs.

Afterwards, Ivy of Bad, Bad Ivy is hosting a pot-luck at her house around 4:00 p.m. Good fun, good company, and happy times! Hope you can come!

Domestic Violence Luncheon

On May 24, a luncheon to benefit the Domestic Violence agency will be held at the Smyrna Town Centre. Money raised is being used to build an office in Northern Rutherford County. The cost is $25 per plate.

To get tickets, call 896-7377 or send your money to P.O. Box 2652, Murfreesboro, TN 37133 (Attn: Smyrna Lunch).

I encourage you to attend if you’re able.

Retail Coming to Smyrna

Our sister city Smyrna has their act together. Members of their city council are heading to Las Vegas in the coming weeks to attend a “Shopping Center” convention. At this event, they will meet with developers to entice them to bring their stores, etc. to their town. I think LaVergne needs to send some people as well! We need some strong anchor stores so that we can move away from just being an industrial town and get some retail going!

Meanwhile, here’s what Smyrna has coming in:

Off Industrial Rd.: Target (confirmed), movie theater, hotel, apartment complex. This is being brought in by Colonial Development of Kentucky.

Between Kroger & Publix: Home Depot. This will be a fancy one with a dressy facade.

Near Nissan: Big strip mall to include Starbucks, Burger King, other fast food, shopping center, and some medium density housing.

I heard there’s another movie theater coming too (next to Lowe’s) – it even has a sign that it’s coming. Unfortunately, the planning commission of Smyrna hasn’t addressed this yet. So we’ll see.

Election Day

Today was primary election day here in LaVergne (for county officials). I voted. I voted around 4:15 p.m. and was told I was about the 25th person who did so. I was deeply saddened to hear this. In the contested elections, I voted for Bud Harmon for County Trustee and for Toby Gillis for Judge. Last time I looked, both were behind.

Next time we have an election, I hope there are more than 25 people who vote!
