Joshua’s Petition ONLINE

Update: A friend sent me this link to information about the parole hearing for Josh’s dad and stepmother

The petition developed by Joshua Osborne to change state law is now online.  We prefer residents of Tennessee to sign it, but support from other parts of the country would also be appreciated.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN THE PETITION.

Joshua Osborne asks you to sign the petition below to urge the State of Tennessee to change its child abuse laws:

1. Eliminate the statute of limitations for child abuse crimes to allow children time to recall and courts or care-takers time to document said crimes.
2. Allow children to testify about abuse against the accused in private (not in front of the accused).
3. Eliminate “first-time offenders” category in cases of child abuse.

Thank you for your support, LaVergne!

  1. Can anything be done with this petition to increase the length of jail time for a child neglect case or “attempted aggravated neglect”? Please know that I am not trying to be critical of the petition, as I think it is absolutely a good idea, but I was in shock that a person could get more time for an animal cruelty case. I want to see this changed bc I don’t think it’s right for anyone to treat another human so poorly and then get off so easily. Then again, I don’t know much about the current laws or the details of the sentencing in this case, so maybe there’s a reason that part isn’t on there. Maybe it has to do with the “first time offenders” part of the petition? Anyone have more info? THanks.

  2. Yes, the conviction was light because his dad and stepmother were considered “first time offenders” even though they’d been abusing/neglecting him for 9 years. Please spread this petition around wherever you can as his aunt would like at least 2000 signatures before he testifies. Thank you!

  3. Oh… one more thing. The reason details are “light” is because Joshua and his guardian are under a “gag” order by the courts so they are not allowed to talk about, for example, his siblings except to say that he has siblings. He could mention one sister because she is 18. He has been effectively muzzled about a lot of what can be said.

  4. I’ll send it out on the message boards I’m on. Thanks for the info, Kathy.
