Saturday News and Link Dump

It’s Saturday link dump day.

I saw this online at the DNJ and it’s kind of sad and scary.  People are having to get rid of their horses because they can’t afford to feed them anymore.

Tennessee doesn’t track cases of horse abandonment, but rumors abound in local communities: stories of horses being let loose in public parks, and of farm owners walking out of livestock sales to find abandoned horses tied to their trailers.

Did you know that Saturday is songwriters night in LaVergne at the Civic Auditorium on Old Nashville Highway?  I wrote a song once.  It went horribly wrong … sometimes it attaches itself in my brain and I find myself humming it.  It was truly a bad bad bad no good song.  How could it not be with lyrics like, “Why did he go so very far from me?”

Want to get really mad?  Nashville’s beloved Brittney G. who left us for San Francisco sent this link through Twitter.  It’s seriously some of the worst parents in the world.  I was appalled and heartbroken when I watched it.  Truly despicable.

I’ll be selling cookies again today with my troop in front of KMart.  4:00 – 8:00 p.m.  In honor of the cookie booth, here’s an LOLCatz for you.

Don’t forget about the Parade of Homes in Lake Forest coming on March 16 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  So far we’re up to 19 houses on the tour!  We’ll have drawings for door prizes valued at $75, $50, and $25.  If you know anyone who’s looking for a home or who is interested in LaVergne, this would be a great time for them to come by to visit!

Meanwhile, if you’re concerned about stretching your dollar, here are two really interesting local writers who’ve weighed in on the subject.  Like Merchant Ships helps plan a menu for $50 p/week.  I don’t know why some of her commenters are so rude because she offers solid advice.  Our own Bad Bad Ivy writes on Home Ec 101 about the economy.  She told me recently in a phone call that the price for 50 pounds of flour went from $15 a year ago to nearly $40 today. That ties us back to why people are giving up their horses!  On that note, have a good Saturday, LaVergne-maniacs.
