Gas Watch

With the price per barrel of oil plunging, what the crap???  I know gas prices are going up thanks to stupid panic and greedy speculation.  Where’s the cheapest in LaVergne?  Smyrna?  It was $4.09 in front of the bowling alley.

  1. the mystical world of gas pricing…bastards…my husband calls it a “speculative market” I call it…well this is a family site and I can’t say what i call it… ;-)

  2. the gas was $3.49 at 7am this morning in front of the bowing alley and now its $4.09. this is price gouging. gas wholesale closed today at $2.79 and if you add the taxes of .58 cents to that is what we should be paying for gas. Someone(Bush and big oil) is stealing from us becuase of the weather. this should be illegal but who do you call to report price gouging?

  3. 4.19 at kroger and Home depot in smyrna. Kangarroo on mboro road and stones river was just 3.79. It’s 3.89 at the end of Fergus Road and Mboro.

  4. As of 10:30 pm, gas at B/P was $3.79 and Mapco was $3.89.

  5. My husband thinks I should wait to get gas. He thinks prices will go down after the hurricane. Hope he is right or I may not go to work on Monday. Hmm..not a bad idea! JK!

  6. Y’all, my daughter was in tears after work… it seems that all the gas stations only have premium left and the majority of LV is out of gas! What is up with this?!?

  7. gas in Florida is $5.49 a gallon and a customer today at work told me Arkansas was already at $8.00 now this is robbery folks. this quarter is almost over and I bet you the oil companies will make record profit when they release it next month….something has to give. Cnn is repoting that most oil refneries in Texas are with water and without power this will make gas up even more so they can rebuild. Who is to blame and What do we do now. some cant afford to even go to work now work for gas only!!

  8. On the way to work this AM saw that BP/Kangaroo were out, Kwik Sak, Pilot still had gas. Most refineries are capable of withstanding these storms it’s a matter of getting them back on-line. But yeah oil companies are going to make a killing off of us….. again.
Gotta love the panic that ensued before this hit, yeah the coming gas shortage hit before the actual hurricane.

  9. My brother lives in suburban Houston and he tells me that gas went up more than $2 per gallon once they figured out where the hurricane was headed, which, of course, was about the time the evacuees started to get out of town. He was not a happy camper, but his area was told to stay put and ride it out. I just wonder if the prices will go down as quickly as they went up . . . somehow I doubt it!

  10. I haven’t decided for whom to vote in the upcoming election, but I will vote for a candidate who freezes prices on gasoline, bottled water, nonperishable food, kerosene, and the like in times such as these. Highway robbin’ fools, that’s what they are.
Don’t forget, boys and girls, winter’s coming up too! Better get all the toilet paper, eggs, milk and bread while you still can!

  11. Miss HM, I was having trouble on either voting for McCain or not voting not all but now that I see that the republicans arent doing a darn thing to stop the gas prices right now I have decided that we dont need McCain in office because it will be aother four yrs of Bush. I am going to vote for Bush, which I know will make many people happy that I am following suit. I am not one to play follow the leader but right now in time we need to stop playing these games with oil and the livelyhood of the Ameircan people. I just hope Obama will make a statement about the rising price of gas soon and see what he wants to do about this since he says he is for change let’s see the change now!!!

  12. opps I meant to say I am going to vote for Obama not Bush…..lolstill sleepy not awake folks!!

  13. Ummm… so let me get this straight bear. You think simply because someone is commander in chief of the United States they can tell a private company what price to sell their goods for? And more importantly, isn’t their a word for a government telling private businesses what to do? Oh yeah, it is. It’s COMMUNISM!!

If you want to blame someone for not acting, blame Bart Gordon, your congressman. After all, the president cannot sign legislation that does not exist, and last time I checked Bart Gordon’s party was in power, yet they have propsed no legislation regarding price gouging during natural disasters.

Why do so many people think the President has the same powers as a dictator. Have you read the constitution???

  14. The ones in office are backed by BIG OIL and yea they need to be out of office now….they can and should be able to control prices. I just saw in smyrna one Bp was $4.09 nd 2 blocks down the street at the other Bp it was $4.99 now tell me if that isnt gouging and someone needs to step in because I know that the oil companies are making huge profits now!!

  15. “….and last time I checked Bart Gordon’s party was in power, yet they have propsed no legislation regarding price gouging during natural disasters.”

And last time I checked Bart Gordon’s party was NOT in power the previous 6 years prior to that AND ALSO HAD THE WHITE HOUSE, yet they propsed no legislation regarding price gouging during natural disasters.

    VERY weak argument.

  16. Oil this morning is at $95.94 nd I want to know this: the gas that is at the stations now was bought a few months ago at a certain price so why are we paying alot more than what it is paid for? Also if gas is being wholesaled today at $2.77 then why is the price still high. I saw 2 deliveries this morning at Thorton’s by the bowling center. If oil is dropping then gas should too. I bet you that gas wont drop as fast as it rose!!

  17. “And last time I checked Bart Gordon’s party was NOT in power the previous 6 years prior to that AND ALSO HAD THE WHITE HOUSE, yet they propsed no legislation regarding price gouging during natural disasters.”

So it takes 6 years to propose legislation? The democrats can’t muster a single bill with only 2 years!?! And again, the legislative branch does not set policies, that is legislative. Do a little more homework before calling someones argument weak.

By the way, yes, the oil companies are making huge profits, but that’s because the cost of their goods (oil) have increased. Their profit MARGINS are about the same as they were when gas was $1.20 a gallon. With the exception of the past few days, it’s been OPEC making money off our backs, not Exxon. As far as the past few days, that’s pure supply and demand. I would support a price gouging bill if it also included limits (meaning a person could only buy so much gas), but am still waiting for Nancy Pelosi and crew to make a proposal…

  18. We have the opposite of communism in this country, we have a system where big companies (not just oil) tell our politicians what to do. It used to be called fascism, now I think it’s called status quo.

  19. What we have is a plutocracy, where special interests, large corporations, and the like control politicians from the top down. I’m not a Communist, a socialist, or any of those things. In fact, I’m a proud Libertarian. If you get any large, overbloated entity such as the government, big business, lobbying groups out of the way, the free market controls itself.
And I don’t believe for a minute that government should be able to say what a product should be sold for. I do believe that taxes should be frozen or cut on gasoline and necessary goods in times such as these.

  20. if you believe price gouging is happening, you can report it to the U.S.Dept. of Energy that’s http://gaswatch.energy.gov/

  21. if you believe price gouging is happening, you can report it to the US Dept of Energy

  22. oops, here, that link for US Dept of Energy is at http://gaswatch.energy.gov/

  23. Ok all, today oil closed at $95 and wholesale gas was at $2.56 so add another .58 cents to that for our state taxes plus fed taxes and you get a price of $3.14 so why are we paying over a dollar more today

  24. Better yet, why don’t we devote the same amount of resources, mindpower and willpower into creating a clean, safe, renewable energy source of transportation that we do for Hummer H2 advertising?

  25. “So it takes 6 years to propose legislation? The democrats can’t muster a single bill with only 2 years!?! And again, the legislative branch does not set policies, that is legislative. Do a little more homework before calling someones argument weak.”

Republicans had control of Congress AND the White House from 2000 -2006 and failed to propose and pass legislation regarding price gouging during natural disasters. Not sure what homework is necessary. I’m not saying the current sitting Congress is any better, but to blame them without recognizing the do-nothing Congress from 2000-2006 that also had the sitting President is what creates the weakness of the arguement.

  26. Why does everyone seem to think that Bush has control over the gas price. He doesn’t. Michael is right, it’s the congress. Maybe we should drill in Alaska??

  27. you know what they all suck. voting is just picking the lesser of 2 evils…in my opinion and yes I know what opinions are like…and they all stink. :-)

  28. I’ve been voting Independent for as long as I’ve been able to. If more people did so, or got involved in supporting Libertarian/Constitutional Party/Green candidates, than maybe we’d have more than a choice between Overbloated Government or Overbloated Corporate Plutocracy Government.

  29. IJS – I don’t care who HAD control of congress. From the time I moved to Tennessee, I’ve lived in congressional districts that are represented by a democrat. I can’t control Republicans elected in Williamson county, Virginia, Florida, or anywhere else. Neither Jim Cooper nor Bart Gordon has made any legislative proposal to reduce the price of gas, and they are the people I vote for to write laws. The president cannot write laws, even if he is Obama ‘the messiah.”

The reason I think it’s fair to now blame the democrats now is because they are the ones who said that if given power they would bring down the price of gas. To qoute Nancy Pelosi, “Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices.” She said that on 4/26/2006 – Do you know what the average US gas price was on that day? $2.33 a gallon!

Do I really think eaither party can control gas prices? No, not as long as it comes from terrorist sponsoring nations. But my response was made because bear said he was now going to vote for Obama because the republicans weren’t keeping gas prices down. My point is that gas has skyrocketed since the dems took over the house, so using bears logic, a democratic president will only make it worse.

  30. And you are right MissHM, both parties have major faults. I am not a republican, I am a conservative, and so I vote for the candidate that best suits what I am looking for in a particular office. Bredesen is a fiscal conservative, so I voted for him. The La Vergne M/A do not specify a party, but I would guess that all of them would register as democrats if forced to, but that doesn’t mean some of them aren’t conservative.
