Wanted: Young Artists

Are there any kids out there who want to make a cool $50 or maybe even $200?  This is your chance if you’re young enough!  From the city,

The annual Old Timers’ Day art contest is on again! And this year, the contest has been opened to young people, first through seventh grade. This is for Rutherford County School children as well as home-schooled children.

Any student in those grades as of April 1, 2010 are welcome to enter the contest. Winner of the overall contest will get a trophy and a $50 savings bond. The winner will then be allowed to compete with adults for the T-shirt design contest.

The design must have the Old Timers’ Day logo on it, along with the date (Sept. 18, 2010) and Veteran’s Memorial Park, La Vergne Tennessee.  Winner of the main contest gets a trophy and $200.  The contest begins March 1, 2010. Deadline for entry is June 1, 2010.

For more information, check out the Old Timers’ Day link at www.lavergne.org.

This is why they won’t let me enter… a depiction of me scooping up a bunny that my dog killed two summers ago. Dumb dog. Poor bunny.  That and I’m like not in the 7th grade anymore.

  1. This contest is for kids 1st through 7th and adults. The winning youth entry wins a $50 savings bond and a plaque. The winner then gets to compete against the adult entries for the top prize of $200 and a plaque or trophy (haven’t decided yet).

In years past, we’ve had slight participation. I’d think with the economy the way it is, more people would be drawing (or attempting to draw) art for this contest.

After all, $200 buys a lot of groceries. Or clothes. Or toys for that rabbit-killer dog!

Good luck. If you need the logo, please e-mail me at amayes(at)lavergne(dot)org.

  2. So! I *could* enter!! This pleases me, Grasshopper. What are the parameters? Wait… let me go find them on the city site and post… and… here it is.
