Liveblogging: Special Meeting

UPDATE to add DNJ article link:  LaVergne OKs severance deal.

Am Liveblogging this special called meeting. Half full room so far. Just called to order…

Sorry, my phone would not cooperate so here’s an update on what happened…

A motion was made and seconded to accept option 1 which provided a 3 month separation and release package for Mark Moshea.  After lengthy discussion, Mayor Mosley, Alderman Farmer, and Alderman Broeker voted Yes to accept the package.  Alderman Green and Alderman Waldron voted No.  The motion was passed.

Mayor Mosley said that since option 1 was accepted she motioned to deny option 2.  Alderman Farmer seconded.  After discussion, Mayor Mosley, Alderman Farmer, Alderman Green, and Alderman Broeker voted Yes to deny option 2.  Alderman Waldron voted No.  The motion was passed.

The third item for discussion was for appointing an interim City Administrator.  Mayor Mosley nominated City Recorder Bruce Richardson and at least three Aldermen seconded.  After many positive comments regarding Mr Richardson’s work the measure was unanimously accepted.

  1. I was glad to see the board get this matter out of the way and save the city some money and onto the next phase. I would also like to say that I am glad that Mr. Broeker explained why he changed his vote and didn’t just change it because of pressure, I think last time he was thrown under the bus without knowing the full details of the situation and he took it upon himself to research and go directly to this man and plainly asked him. ARE YOU OK WITH THIS, and DID YOU AGREE TO THE TERMS, Mr. Moshea told him yes and that’s what he wanted. I thought some people would say that he rolled over, but instead he did his homework and decided for himself that this was not the right man for the job for Lavergne and based his vote on that info. SO! With that said, on to the next venture in making our city worthwhile and just plain ole taking out the trash.

    • Alderman Broeker has earned my respect in that he has now demonstrated that his vote is based on fact-gathering – something everyone serving office in LaVergne should be doing.

As Steve says, now we can move forward… and “onto the next phase”…

  2. I am glad we are past this hurdle also. I think Tom Broeker was correct in his decision the first time we voted. He stated today in the meeting that he simply did not have enough information to make an informed decision. This could be blamed on a multitude of reasons but whichever people elect to choose does not matter. What matters is he showed he is honest and willing to work for the citizens before coming to a decision.

I on the other hand had a little more first hand knowledge of Mr. Moshea prior to even being elected. This come from working in the city and around him at different times. I also felt that if he had signed the resignation for any reason I should honor his signature and move on. I did not know as much about Mr. Moshea prior to the first meeting as I did this one but I stand behind my first decision as we should Tom he has gained a lot of respect I too believe.

As he stated in an earlier post if he was a good ole boy he would have never nominated me for Vice Mayor. Which I do not know if I have ever told him Thank You on here so I am now. Thank You Tom Broeker for the Vice Mayor nomination.

  3. So “moving forward” ” onto the next phase”, does anyone know the procedure for removing Deceitful Dennis Waldron from office?
Personally, I don’t think we need someone whose stated intentions are to prevent Mayor Mosley from succeeding.
What’s his main concern? , keeping the eyesore he calls a business from being subjected to city codes and other regulations? being forced to obey the city codes and regulations and clean it up?
So how do we get him off the Board of Aldermen without having to wait for the next election?
Just think, if we can force him off, then Senile Sherry won’t have anyone to lead her around and she may resign. That’s a two for one deal!

    • I agree with the fact that no matter what Mayor Mosley is for, these 2 will be against, no matter what Mayor Mosely is against, these 2 will be for, at least Aldererman Broeker researched and gathered information and made his decision from that iformation that he obtained, I am ashamed of these 2 city (LEADERS?) that it will never matter right or wrong they will always go against the grain and never make a importan vote on the facts.

  4. i want sayin anything bad about anybody on board, but will say greatness wins out,,so stick around and just wait,,

  5. I like Tom’s reasoning here. Thanks for doing the research!

  6. I, too, am thankful to have another board member who will get facts before making a decision regarding a vote. It gives me hope that maybe at least one of the other board members might take note of the right way to make decisions & not just follow the leader — whoever that is! Thank you Tom for doing your job the right way — for the people!!

  7. I don’t understand why everyone is so mad at Dennis Waldron. It seems like he supported what most of us supported – no severance package for Moshea. His quote:

“I have no problem with Mark, but when somebody’s ready to go, I’m not going to beg them to stay.”

    What am I missing?

And as far as the comments about Waldron and Green simply being “obstructionists,” that’s what many people called Mosley over the past 6 years since she was often the lone no vote. Do any of you believe she was simply an obstructionist (well, other than you Mike Slinker)? I don’t think any of them are voting no just for the sake of voting no. and as far as booting Green off the board, was she not the highest vote-getter in the election just last month?

    • Might wanna go back and finish reading what he said about under table deal, and also he voted to give him 6 months of money and voted against 3 months worth. so in layman terms, Mosley,Farmer and Broeker saved the city aproxx. $20,500

  8. LOL
